Chairman’s Club Sealed in Bengaluru, Blinkit Storage Room Shut in Mangaluru
Food Safety officials sealed Chairman’s Club in Bengaluru after finding expired chilli and hygiene violations, while a Blinkit facility in Mangaluru faced action after damaged eggs were found during an inspection.
In Bengaluru, officials conducted a special inspection at Chairman’s Club in Sahakaranagar near Dollars Colony on September 3 and found several violations, including 40 kg of expired chilli and improperly labelled food products.
The officials also found unauthorised artificial colours and reported highly unhygienic conditions in the club’s kitchen. Vegetarian and non-vegetarian food products were found stored together, raising concerns over food safety and hygiene practices.
The expired products were seized, while the club’s kitchen was closed and sealed. Further legal action has been initiated under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006.
Meanwhile, in Mangaluru, Food Safety officials inspected a Blinkit online retail facility operating from Falnir Square following a consumer complaint that eggs purchased through the platform were damaged and that a worm was reportedly found inside one of the eggs.
The complaint was submitted to Health Minister U.T. Khader, following which officials inspected the facility.
During the inspection, officials found packets containing broken eggs at the facility. The concerned personnel were immediately directed to remove and dispose of the affected egg packets.
As a precautionary measure and to ensure thorough cleaning and sanitisation of the food storage area, the storage room was temporarily closed and sealed.
The Food Safety Department will issue a notice to the Blinkit facility seeking an explanation from the management regarding the incident. Further action will be taken based on the inspection findings and the response submitted by the establishment.
The inspections come amid efforts by the Health and Family Welfare Department to strengthen enforcement of food safety standards and take action against establishments found violating prescribed hygiene and storage norms.
